After a historic St. Anthony girls soccer season, head coaches Sue and Paul Pawlyshyn were recognized as Minnesota’s Small School Coaches of the Year.
This is the second year in a row that the Pawlyshyns have been honored with this award, after winning it last season after leading their team to the state tournament for the first time in the five-year history of the program.
“This award is very well deserved for Sue and Paul,” commented Athletic Director Troy Urdahl. “We are very fortunate to have two coaches who care so much about their team - we are very proud of them and what they’ve been able to accomplish working alongside a wonderful group of student-athletes!”
Earlier this month, the girls soccer team claimed the Class A State Championship, winning the first state championship for any girls sport in school history. The championship game was a battle against St. Paul Academy, with the Huskies pulling out a 3-2 win.
“We are so thankful to be honored as the Minnesota Small School Coaches of the Year by the United Soccer Coaches!” said Coach Paul. “There are so many wonderful and well deserving coaches, so thank you! We have been blessed and supported all season long by our community and families, our wonderful school, the leadership team, all of the staff and administrators, and of course, our army - the student body that has been with us the entire school year. We could not have done it without their love and support. We are so grateful for this award.”
Coach Sue and Coach Paul will now be nominated for Regional Coach of the Year honors, which will be announced at a later date.
Congratulations, Coach Sue and Coach Paul!
