Hi everyone,
A quick note on this last weekend before school starts. I’m sure some people are very sad and others can hardly contain their excitement.
Tryouts went well. The weather was good for us and it was amazing to have additional coaches help with the selection process. The C squad morphed. The 7-8th graders we expected to come out didn’t. Apparently, a large number are training with another soccer club or something. We still have 55 players out. The C squad is now made up primarily of 9 and 10th grades. They were scheduled to play a middle school schedule and then some 9th grade teams. With the change in age we lost a couple of games but have added others. Seniors are playing on JV due to the numbers allowing us to have a full C squad and JV team. There are 15 players on Varsity. We have already had some players playing up on JV and Varsity as injuries and other issues have kept some players from playing.
The fundraising went well even though the participation of the guys was dismal. Fundraising is a part of the program just like practice and it is very disappointing that over ½ of the players didn’t participate yet they will gain the benefit of the about 20 players’ hard work and time who did participate.
Duluth was a success again this year. We went to Split Rock Lighthouse and then stayed at Canal Park again. Unfortunately, Two Harbors had issues with their guys teams and we only played one scrimmage and one real game.
This week C squad plays their first game at Minnetonka at 4:30 (bus leaves at 2:50) and then on Thursday against SPA at SPA again at 4:30 (bus leaves at 3:25).
JV plays at Irondale at 5 and Varsity plays at 7 on Tuesday (bus leaves at 4). Thursday JV plays are home 4:30 vs Columbia Heights and Varsity plays at Columbia Heights at 6:30 (bus leaves at 5:30).
From here on out practice will be at 3- 5 at the pavilion for all teams when they don’t have games.
There are a few players who have not gotten the baseline testing for concussions done yet. This is mandatory. Wednesday 9/4 @ 3:00pm in Room 100 Dominick Moses, Samuel Salinas, Abdifatah Badi, Alan Molina
The teams each have a Teamsnap page which has the games on it. We are using Groupme for items which are pertinent to the whole program.
